Kasteel Engelenburg in care of EHM Group
The exclusive Kasteel Engelenburg (Castle Engelenburg) in Brummen, Gelderland, has become part of EHM Group since this month. The new owner will invest substantially in the centuries-old chateau with the aim of reaching the absolute top in hospitality and gastronomy.
Unique retreat of (almost) 450 years
“In its nearly 35 years of welcoming guests, Kasteel Engelenburg has redefined the term hospitality. Generations have enjoyed the exceptional service, culinary enchantments and stunning location here to the fullest. I am sincerely proud that our company is being granted the honour of continuing this heritage,” said Bas Tolmeijer, Managing Director of EHM Group.
Late this year/early next year, it will be exactly 450 years since the first occupant of Kasteel Engelenburg moved into the estate. After an illustrious history, it has been in use as a hotel since 1988. The castle offers 41 rooms & suites, an exclusive restaurant, several bars & lounges, a wine cellar, terraces, conference and banqueting rooms. The 48-hectare estate is also home to a 9-hole golf course.
Anton de Lange, owner of Kasteel Engelenburg since the 1980s, is happy with his successors: “I have dedicated almost half my life to building, renewing and operating this beautiful estate. When you have given so much to a company for so long, you only want one thing: to be sure that it is taken care of at least as well as you would yourself. I have had long discussions with Bas and his associates and am confident that they will create a successful future for my brainchild.”
The next chapter, in the history of the estate.
The new owner of Kasteel Engelenburg is ambitious about the next chapter in the estate’s history. Bas Tolmeijer: “At the moment, we are in the process of brainstorming and sketching the exact conceptual interpretation. The final plan should take shape this spring, after which we will renew the interior of the main building, renovate the rooms and modernise the halls. Furthermore, we want to relaunch the restaurant, led by chef Edwin Franken, supervised by former chef Niels Minkman, at an even higher culinary level.”
EHM Group will be assisted by the outgoing lord of the castle. Bas Tolmeijer: “With Anton, we have worked out a special construction in which he participates in the holding company. He will share his expertise and experience of four decades with us and think along strategically: both for Kasteel Engelenburg and with our other companies.”
