Kasteel de Essenburgh acquired by EHM Group

With the acquisition of Kasteel De Essenburgh, EHM Group announces the second acquisition this quarter. Just last month, the incorporation of another castle hotel – Engelenburg in Brummen – was announced.

That yet another monumental business is going to be under EHM Group’s wings is no coincidence. “We have a passion for exceptional buildings and the opportunity they offer to create a unique atmosphere there. Such an ambience is often hard to match with a modern building. We are therefore very proud to be able to add another unique hotel to our portfolio with Kasteel De Essenburgh,” says Bas Tolmeijer, Managing Director of EHM Group.

The second castle hotel

EHM Group is taking over Kasteel De Essenburgh from Harderwijk-based entrepreneur couple Jos and Angela Baars. “We have operated the beautiful establishment since 2010 and lovingly transformed it from a training institute into a delightful retreat for relaxed recreation, unforgettable weddings and inspirational meetings,” they said. “We have always been able to combine operating the Essenburgh and our other location in Harderwijk (Hotel Baars) very well. However, we want to be able to have full focus on our other hotel in the coming years in order to fulfil our desired growth ambition there,” Jos Baars said. When we started talking to Bas and his company, it felt right away. We handed over the key to EHM Group with a warm feeling,” said Jos Baars.

The oldest part of the 22-hectare estate, dates back to 1641. The current Castle Hotel includes 37 rooms & suites, a restaurant, a cellar bar, terraces and several conference and party rooms. The new owner has ambitious plans. “First of all, we want to make a major upgrade to the interior, rooms and food & beverage outlets of De Essenburgh. We also want to optimise synergy with the nearby Veluwe Hotel De Beyaerd. We will invest heavily in both businesses in order to serve new segments. The transformation should be completed in three years. Then we will have a hotel that can compete with the best in the Netherlands in terms of hospitality and gastronomy”, Bas Tolmeijer concludes.

The daily management of Kasteel De Essenburgh is in the hands of hotel manager Jasper Ebbink under the guidance of Director of Operations Wouter Dekker. Jasper held the same position at Veluwe Hotel De Beyaerd until his move.
