Hotel Haarhuis Arnhem acquired by EHM Group
Hotel Haarhuis, Arnhem’s leading hotel for over a century, has been acquired by EHM Group. Today, Arjen de Vries, who was the owner for over 20 years, is handing over the baton.
Hotel Haarhuis in Arnhem
It is a day with a smile and a tear for De Vries: “In 1999, I bought Hotel Haarhuis and immediately started a major renovation. Together with the loyal staff, we built a wonderful business. Highlights like the expansion with 42 rooms, beautiful gala events and the centenary celebration, have been larded with challenges of the recent economic crisis and the renovation of the railway station. This makes the personal bond with Haarhuis very close and saying goodbye tough. I am therefore particularly pleased that Arnhemmer Bas Tolmeijer is signing with his company for the future of our beautiful hotel!”.
Tolmeijer and his associates sold their Apollo Hotels to a stock market fund earlier this year. They retained the wellness resort Thermae 2000 and reinvested in building up a hotel portfolio: “The blood crawls where it can’t go. And how great is it then that, as a born and bred resident of the city of Arnhem, I can take over this famous hotel in my own backyard? Our plan is to continue Arjen’s policy and further modernise the product”.
In the coming years, the two Arnhemmers will see each other regularly, as Arjen de Vries retains an advisory role and also remains financially linked to Hotel Haarhuis.
General Manager,
Wouter Dekker
The daily management of the hotel will be in the hands of Wouter Dekker. After studying at the Hogere Hotelschool Leeuwarden, Wouter worked for various hotel brands and was responsible for several hotels as General Manager. In that position, he was most recently associated with Apollo Hotel Almere. “I feel honoured to be allowed to take charge of this icon and am extremely looking forward to realising the next innovations with the team.”
Hotel Haarhuis opened in 1918 as a coffee house and has since evolved into one of the most well-known hotels in the eastern Netherlands. It has 124 rooms and suites, bar-restaurant “Perron 5” and 9 conference rooms with a capacity of up to 440 people. The hotel is located in the centre of Arnhem, right next to the central railway station.
